Can AI read a PDF and answer questions about it?
Yes. AI document tools extract the text from a PDF, find the passages related to your question and write an answer from them. Search+ does this for PDFs, including scanned ones through OCR, and cites the excerpts it used.
The quality of the answer depends on the text the tool can extract. Exported reports and papers already contain text; a scanned PDF is an image of each page, so it needs text recognition first. Search+ includes OCR for documents that require it.
Look for tools that show where an answer came from. In Search+, each answer has inline citations to the document and the supporting excerpt, so you can check it.
