An AI knowledge base built from the PDFs you already have

Search+ turns the PDFs you rely on into a personal AI knowledge base. You group documents into workspaces, one per subject or project, and then ask questions that are answered only from those documents, with a citation to the supporting excerpt for every point. Nothing has to be rewritten into articles first: the source PDFs are the knowledge base. It is built for reference material you return to, which suits researchers, analysts and anyone who keeps returning to the same stack of documents.

What asking your knowledge base looks like

A knowledge base earns its keep when you come back to it months later. Here are questions people ask a workspace of reference PDFs.

What did our policies say about remote work before the last revision?

With both versions in the workspace, the answer describes each and cites the passage it came from, so you can see what changed.

Summarize what my reference papers say about sample size.

Search+ gathers the relevant passages across the papers in the workspace into one cited summary, each point linked to its source.

Which manual explains the calibration step?

The answer names the manual and quotes the procedure through a citation, with a section reference when the PDF has headings.

Remind me what the 2024 strategy document committed to.

Ask in the strategy workspace and the reply lists the commitments with citations, without you rereading the document.

What is an AI knowledge base?

An AI knowledge base is a collection of trusted information that you can question in plain language instead of browsing page by page. Many products build one by asking a team to write articles into a wiki, then add a chatbot on top. Another approach skips the writing: the original documents are the knowledge, and the AI answers directly from them while citing where each answer came from. Search+ takes the second approach for PDFs. Each workspace is a body of source documents plus the conversations you have had about them, and Workspace Context lets you record standing rules, such as preferred terms or what to prioritize, that shape every answer from that workspace.

Not the same as a team wiki or help center. Search+ has no article editor and no notes; it is a set of PDF workspaces you question.

How to build a knowledge base in Search+

  1. Decide the subjects

Create one workspace per subject or project, such as company policies, a research topic or a client. You can rename or archive a workspace as things change.

  2. Add the source PDFs

Drag and drop up to 10 PDFs per batch. Files process in the background and show their status until they are indexed.

  3. Write the standing rules

Use Workspace Context to set instructions that apply to every question in that workspace, for example which document is authoritative or which terms to use.

  4. Ask, and keep the answers

Ask questions whenever you need the knowledge. Conversations are saved with the workspace, so earlier answers and their citations are there next time.

What your Search+ knowledge base can do

Answers only from your sources

Questions are answered from the PDFs in the workspace, with inline citations to the document and excerpt behind each point.

Standing rules per subject

Workspace Context holds instructions once and applies them to every question in that workspace.

It remembers your work

Workspaces, documents and conversations persist, so you pick up where you left off.

Find past answers

Search your workspaces and earlier conversations by name, and reopen a thread with its context intact.

Patterns across the collection

Ask for themes and repeated claims across the documents in a subject, with each one cited.

Private to your account

Sign-in uses Clerk accounts, and each account's workspaces and documents are kept separate from other accounts.

What this knowledge base is not

No wiki, articles or notes

You cannot write pages or notes inside Search+. The knowledge lives in the PDFs you upload and the conversations you have about them.

No integrations

Search+ does not connect to drives, chat tools or note apps. Documents arrive by upload.

Answers can be wrong

AI answers can be incomplete or inaccurate. Open the cited excerpt before you rely on an important point.

Search+ compared with the usual ways to keep reference material

Most people keep reference documents in folders and their own notes. Here is how a Search+ workspace differs.

AI knowledge base questions

What are examples of an AI knowledge base?
Common examples are a team help center with a chatbot, a support knowledge base that answers customers, and a personal collection of documents you can question. Search+ is the last kind: workspaces of your own PDFs that answer with citations.
Is there an open source version?
No. Search+ is a hosted web app at app.searchplus.ai. It is not open source and cannot be self-hosted.
Is Search+ an AI knowledge base builder?
In a light sense. You build it by creating workspaces and uploading PDFs, then adding Workspace Context. There are no templates, article editors or publishing steps.
Can I add my own notes to the knowledge base?
No. Search+ has no notes or article editor. Your knowledge base is the documents you upload and the conversations you have about them, and both are saved with the workspace.
How do I keep answers consistent across a subject?
Write Workspace Context for that workspace. It holds standing instructions, such as priorities, terminology or evidence standards, and applies them to every question asked there.
Can I trust the answers?
Check them. Every point cites its source excerpt so you can verify it, and AI answers can be incomplete or inaccurate. Search+ does not invent page or section locations that a document does not contain.
What does it cost to start?
You can create an account without entering payment details and start building workspaces.
Can I ask about one document instead of the whole subject?
Yes. Narrow the question to a single document and the answer comes only from that PDF. Keep the scope on the whole workspace when you want the knowledge base to draw on every source in the subject at once.
What happens to a subject I no longer use?
Archive its workspace. Archiving moves it out of the way of your active work while the documents and conversations stay in your account, and you can rename workspaces at any time as subjects change.
What can I put in my knowledge base?
Documents in PDF, Word (DOCX) or Excel (XLSX) form, including scanned pages, which OCR reads. Group them into workspaces by subject. The knowledge base is those documents plus the conversations you have about them, and every answer points back to the source excerpt.
