Perplexity Spaces alternatives

Perplexity Spaces combine custom instructions, file search and the web in a shared workspace. People look for an alternative when they want answers only from their own documents, or when 50 files per Space on Pro is not enough. The closest alternatives are Search+ for document-only answers with cited excerpts, NotebookLM for grounded answers across many source types, and Claude or ChatGPT Projects for assistants built around files.

We make Search+, one of the alternatives below. We compared Perplexity Spaces and each alternative on files, citations, instructions, sharing and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 11, 2026.

What is Perplexity Spaces?

Perplexity Spaces are workspaces in Perplexity for organizing research. A Space holds threads, files and custom instructions, can search the web, academic papers and connected apps, and can be shared with contributors or by link.

Not the same as a Perplexity search thread: a Space keeps instructions and files for every thread in it.
